M40 Module
Sol3g started the production of its M40 module in mid 2006, becoming one of the first companies in the world to commercialize HCPV modules based on triple-junction cells.
Our HCPV M40 modules include Fresnel lenses and secondary non imaging elements with triple-junction cells.
These cells are made by MOCVD (Metal Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition) of III-V compound semiconductor material (InGaP and GaInAs) deposited on a substrate of Ge. They resist the concentration of the radiation and have an efficiency of around 32%, much higher than traditional silicon cells.
M40 Module Applications

Dimensions, weight and solar aperture

The module has the following physical characteristics:

Cells per module 10
Solar aperture per module 0,144 m2
Dimensions 1206x130x194 mm
Weight 2,7 Kg
Acceptance half angle 1,15 degree

Isc 1,42 A 1,30 A 1,18 A
Vmpp 26 V 26 V 26 V
Impp 1,36 A 1,25 A 1,12 A

Thanks to constant improvement of the cell's efficiency, we expect the cells to reach an efficiency of 50% in the near future thus improving module efficiency.

Solar tracking

Cell efficiency could be increased in the near future up to 50%, being the theoretical limit around 70%. Solar tracking technology HCPV (High Concentration Photovoltaic) of Sol3g requires, just as all concentration systems, a 2 axis solar tracking in order to have the sensible element of the module focused towards the sun. Concentration systems work correctly only when they receive direct irradiation (DNI - Direct Normal Irradiation).

The module offers a half angle acceptance of 1,15º, higher than in most concentration systems. In this way we manage to correct possible errors of the solar tracking system, giving more flexibility and yield to the whole system.

M40 Module Applications

Basing on our M40 Module we have designed different systems for application in "Solar Farms" as well as in covers of industrial warehouses, office buildings or houses.

HCPV S1000 and S4000 systems for "Solar Farms" are a combination of M40 Modules and a Feina's Solar Tracker. These systems are scalable to the power that each installation may require, offering a nominal power of 1kWp in the case of the S1000 and 4 kWp in the case of the S4000.

Our Gira-Sol system is also based on the M40 Module and is siutable for installations in covers of industrial warehouses, office buildings or houses. It is an HCPV system which integrates module and tracker.
